Stitch drilling large non-standard openings in Westbury

Overlapping cores used. Three drilling orientations possible. Irregular outlines planned precisely.

Create unusual openings with controlled edges

Shapes beyond one core

Overlapping holes can follow large or non-standard aperture outlines.

Spacing planned carefully

We position each core to limit solid webs between neighbouring holes.

Centre removal prepared

The enclosed section is supported and handled before the perimeter is released.

Openings larger than one circular core

Some service and structural openings are too large, too square or too irregular for a single core bit. We use stitch drilling to form their perimeter from a sequence of overlapping circular holes. This method can work through concrete and masonry where the required aperture does not suit a standard core diameter. We set out the outline, spacing and depth before drilling, then follow a planned order around the shape. Accurate overlap matters because gaps leave stubborn webs of material, while poor positioning can push the finished edge outside the approved boundary.

The centre is supported before it comes free

Completing the drilled perimeter is only part of the operation. The centre section must be supported, broken free in a controlled way and removed using a suitable handling method. We plan that stage before the final holes are made. Access and rig position determine whether the sequence is drilled horizontally, vertically or at an agreed angle. Drawings, wall or slab thickness, conditions on the far side and the proposed lifting route help us assess the full job rather than only counting holes.

Frequently asked questions

What shapes can stitch drilling create?

It can form large, rectangular or irregular openings by following a planned perimeter with overlapping cores. The final shape depends on hole diameter, spacing, material thickness and the amount of finishing allowed.

Does stitch drilling leave a smooth edge?

The edge shows the curved profile of the overlapping holes and may need further finishing, depending on the required result. We plan the core spacing to control the outline and reduce solid bridges between holes.

How is the middle section removed?

We plan support and handling before completing the perimeter. The centre may be divided or released according to its size, weight and access. Suitable lifting space and a clear removal route must be available.
